DRIVERS UP
The Story of American Harness Racing
Dwight Akers
Copyright 1938
Illustrated
G P Putnam's Sons
The author provides an overview of harness racing in general,
but seems to focus on its presence in the United States. He refers to the works
of other authors and sources to relate the history and progress of the sport.
From the Preface, "Today the light harness horse is gone from the roads, but
on race tracks from coast to coast the flight of the trotters continues and
still draws its hosts of enthusiastic spectators. Among American sports of
today none is more typically American."
367/xi pages, including Index and List of Illustrations. Plates
of all 41 illustrations are present in this copy.
The gray, cloth-covered boards are lightly soiled and have some
shelf wear. The pages are generally in very good condition; however, several
pages have trace areas of mild foxing. The page outer edges are uncut; the top
and bottom edges are cut.
