Valuable Trotting Stock at Auction The proprietor having decided to discontinue breeding every animal in the Hambletonian Breeding Stud, of Worcester, Mass, and of New Hampton, NH will be sold Without Reserve at Public Auction, on Thursday, Oct 11, 1877, at 11 o'clock, a.m., at the Agricultural Grounds.... The stock consists of forty head of the highest bred Hambletonian Stock ever offered at public auction, 4 stallions and 2 mares by Rysdyk's Hambletonian; 1 stallion and 3 mares by Backman's Messenger Duroc; 5 mares by Goldsmith's Volunteer. ... etc Catalog includes pedigree information and descriptions, with foldout pedigrees for the five stallions. Also included is a lengthy article reprinted from a publicaton of that era, discussing the quality of the stock. Cover shows light wear, as well as fading at the edges. The back cover has a tear extending approx 2/3 way from the top edge along the spine (see image below). Catalog measures approx 5-1/2" x 8-3/4" x 1/4".
