OYSTER SCHOONERS
These are the type of vessel used by La Fitte, the Pirate, and are still employed by the Oyster Fishermen. The Bayou St. John and The New Basin Canal where waterways connecting the city with Lake Pontchartrain. The Bayou St. John was once called after the Baron de Carondelet, who is said to have deepened the original shallow waterway by slave labor.
